Looking for a new best friend? You won’t find a better place than an online game to make new pals. Whether you’re looking to make friends to play games with, or simply meet like-minded individuals, the opportunities are endless. We’ve all been there – feeling alone and isolated despite being surrounded by millions of people. Luckily, the internet (and these games) can help change that.
Best Online Games to Make Friends
Among Us
There’s nothing worse than getting to the final round of a game only to be booted off and lose all progress. That’s why games like Among Us are perfect for making new friends – each match only lasts a few minutes, so if you don’t get on with your partner, you only have to put up with them for a short time.
In between rounds, you can chat to your partner and share screens, which is a great way of getting to know someone – and if you don’t get on, well, it’s only a matter of time before you go your separate ways.
Guild Wars 2
Fantasy MMORPG Guild Wars 2 has one of the most dedicated fanbases around, and the game itself is extremely welcoming to newcomers. While the game does have a single-player aspect, it’s the multiplayer side that offers the most opportunities to make friends.
If you want to join a guild, you’ll be guided through the process by a helpful leader, and slowly make friends with the other members through a series of quests. Once you’ve joined, you can always speak to your guildmates in-game, and if you’re in a party together, you can leave helpful notes on each other’s maps. If you find a difficult boss too much to handle, you can summon your guildmates to assist you – this is how I met my best friend in the game!
Stardew Valley
Stardew Valley is calming, creative, and the perfect place to find like-minded people to chat to. The farming game is filled with lovely people (our Stardew Valley Discord is testament to that) and forums where you can get advice and share designs.
While a lot of players are too polite to tell newcomers that they’re doing something wrong when it comes to Stardew Valley farming, forums are the perfect place for people to ask without fear of being embarrassed. Animal Crossing: New Horizons
There’s nothing quite like a massive and welcoming community and, in the case of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, that’s exactly what you get. Once you’ve got to grips with the basics of the game, you can spend hours designing your house and collecting items as you work towards your goal of creating the perfect town.
Once you’ve finished that, you can check out other players’ designs and visit their island. The game also offers a massive range of clothing items, and you can create your own designs before sharing them with the community. It’s an extremely easy way to make friends – just don’t be surprised if, once you’ve met, you never actually leave your house again.
Final Fantasy 14
While it might not be everyone’s cup of tea, Final Fantasy 14 has one of the best communities among MMORPGs. Final Fantasy 14 is all about meeting new people, especially in bars and taverns. If you’re planning on playing and want to know what classes are available, check out our Final Fantasy 14 classes guide.
The Sims 4
The Sims 4 may not be an online game, but the community surrounding it is so large and readily available that we had to include it in this list. The Sims 4 is one of the best single-player games on PC, but is also a lot of fun when you play with other people. It’s easy to share your designs with other players and visit each other’s islands.
Of course, if you want to play with your friends, you can always play The Sims 4 on Origin. You can even play the Sims Mobile on mobile with your friends.
Sky: Children of the Light
Sky is a game about creating a relationship with your companion and sharing experiences with them. While you can play the game by yourself, it’s much more lonely that way, and if you’re looking to play with friends – or total strangers – in a more friendly environment, you can always play Sky: Children of the Light.
While the game encourages you to meet strangers and join parties, you can also play the game alone and still have a great experience. This is because you share experiences with strangers through messages, and these messages are anonymous. While you’ll make friends with these strangers, the anonymity prevents people from being rude and mean, and these friendships become more special than they otherwise would.
Overwatch 2 and Valorant
Overwatch 2 and Valorant are different games, but they both share similar features. Both games are team-based multiplayer games that require you to communicate with your team to achieve victory. Overwatch 2 is a ranked game, so you’ll be playing with people of a similar skill level to you.
In this environment, it’s much easier to build personal connections with your team, especially if you’re all using voice chat. In Valorant, you don’t have a ranking system, so you can play with people of all skill levels and communicate with them more.
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
While it’s true that Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is a competitive first-person shooter with a ranking system, it’s also a game that emphasizes teamwork and communication. It’s much easier to connect with people while playing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive because you spend most of your time working with your team to achieve a common goal.
