Atari's Lunar Lander: Beyond - A Deep Narrative Simulation Game
The folks at Atari are going back to the moon, with a new game based on the classic Lunar Lander arcade cabinet. Titled Lunar Lander: Beyond, the game will expand on the original concept with added simulation elements and a deeper narrative, as Atari looks to marry the nostalgic appeal of the original with modern gameplay and storytelling elements.
Announced earlier this year, Atari’s new game marks another step in the company’s strategy of revisiting its back catalogue for remasters and new versions. Under CEO Wade Rosen, who formerly led the North American division of Nintendo, Atari has been making efforts to reclaim its former prominence in the gaming industry.
Earlier this year, Atari released the 50th anniversary collection, showcasing its rich gaming history. The announcement of the new Lunar Lander game is another signal of the company’s commitment to delivering quality gaming experiences.
“Atari is all about delivering fun and innovative experiences,” Rosen says. “Partnering with Dreams Uncorporated to create a simulation game based on Lunar Lander is an example of how we are bringing new and exciting experiences to market that will delight players worldwide.”
Players will assume the role of the captain of the Pegasus Corporation, managing a crew and landers as they navigate across various moons and planets to deliver cargo, extract resources, and conduct rescues.
“We are excited to partner with Atari to bring our vision of Lunar Lander to life,” Dreams Uncorporated CEO Brandon Oldman says. “We have been fans of Atari for many years and the company has been an inspiration for us. Our collective vision is to create a celestial tapestry of enigmatic moons and captivating planets, inviting players to explore and experience the wonders of space.”
