Fable Reboot Trailer: Peter Molyneux's Reactions
The Fable reboot, developed by Playground Games, was initially revealed in 2020 and has been shrouded in secrecy ever since. Now, finally, we have our first look at the new game in the form of a new Xbox showcase trailer. With the lack of any substantial gameplay, however, it seems that Fable's creator, Peter Molyneux, is just as disappointed as fans.
“I would have loved to have seen more,” Molyneux says of the trailer, which includes no gameplay footage. “But I love the tone of this.” He praises the trailer for capturing “the same ridiculous energy” as the original trilogy, but he does point out the focus on cutscenes rather than showcasing actual gameplay.
“The moment that I really liked in that trailer was when the hero throws a fireball,” Molyneux says. “You see the impact sensation, and that is the kind of thing that I would have loved to have seen more of.”
Despite his criticism, Molyneux expresses excitement about Playground Games’ take on the series. He mentions the promising moment I just mentioned and comments on the impact sensation, which he says looks fantastic.
The lack of gameplay, however, does seem to indicate that Playground is taking a more cinematic approach to the game. The previous rumors of the game being “Witcher-like” make the lack of gameplay even more significant.
Still, Molyneux is optimistic about Playground's take on the series. “There’s a wonderful balance of humor that is focused on player actions rather than jokes,” he says. He also praises the trailer for the inclusion of jokes from Richard Ayoade, whom he considers a “perfect choice” for the game.
Molyneux also mentions the playful moments in the trailer, such as kicking chickens. These moments, Molyneux says, “make me really excited.” He mentions that the game will allow players to “role-play to the nth degree,” expressing his belief that the game could be a “role-playing game paradise.”
The interview concludes by mentioning that the topic of 22cans’s tease is currently trending. While it’s always nice to get some insight into the reactions of Fable’s creator to the reboot’s trailer, it seems that many fans are disappointed by what was shown.
