Exploring the Origins and True Nature of the Mothercrystals in FFVIIAVI

The Mothercrystals are mysterious, and we know that much. Playing a crucial role in the Final Fantasy XVI story, these crystals will take on a role akin to magicite and Mist in previous entries in the series. Both the origins and true nature of these crystals will impact the world and the player’s journey therein.
FFXVI head researcher, Dr. Serafina Gannon, explains, “In this age, the [Mothercrystals] exist as powerful sources of energy; they provide substratum and sustenance to the world. Not only are they vital for the very survival of the planet, but they hold, within them, immeasurable power.”
These crystals aren’t just objects of desire and admiration, though. Different factions and characters in our Final Fantasy XVI demo acutely seek to control these crystals for their own purposes. Naturally, that leads to conflict. Gannon adds, “The consequences of those in pursuit of power attempting to control the [Mothercrystals] through violence heralds vicious wars with unspeakable casualties.”
The story of Final Fantasy XVI revolves around this conflict and the power struggles it brings about. Playing as Main Character Lightning, players will have to wade through a complex web of alliances and betrayals as they uncover the secrets of these powerful crystals. Just by looking at the artwork, fans know that Final Fantasy XVI is going to be breathtaking; so it makes sense that the Mothercrystals will have their own mythical, ethereal design.
