Knights of the Old Republic: Remake or Remaster?

From what we’ve seen so far, KotOR holds up remarkably well, and many would prefer to see a visual upgrade in a potential remake rather than a complete overhaul. Despite this, there’s been no official word since developer Aspyr was acquired by Embracer.

The Best Star Wars Game of All Time?

Regardless of your feelings toward Star Wars games these days, it’s hard to dispute that KotOR is one of the best Star Wars games of all time. Praised for both its gameplay and story, many would argue that KotOR 1 and 2 stand among the best games ever, period. But is a remaster or remake on the way?

Many Star Wars fans consider KotOR to be one of the best games ever, and some even paid $10 for the mobile version. Some go as far as to say that KotOR, along with its sequel, are the best Star Wars games.

“I’ve played KotOR 2 with mods, but I’ve never played KotOR 1 with mods,” one user writes. “I feel like KotOR 1 is the best Star Wars game, and the sequel is right behind it.”

“I’ve played KotOR 1 and 2 multiple times,” another writes. “They’re classics. The original is still solid. The sequel is basically a perfect RPG.”

“I played the iPad version,” another replies, “and it runs well.”

“Without Twi’lek boobies,” a user jokes.

“I’ve played the Xbox version,” another replies, “and it works just fine on Windows 10.”

“Perfect,” a user simply replies.

“I’ve never used mods on KotOR,” another writes. “The game is fine as is.”

“The game is perfect,” another replies. “I don’t really get the modding thing.”

“I know it sounds like heresy but mods can enhance the experience,” another user writes. “Recommended mods: widescreen patches, high-res menus, texture replacers, etc. Nude mods too, but that’s standard.”

“I would say no mods,” another replies, “but there’s a glitch where using the haste ability and transitioning to a new area can result in a permanent haste effect until the next combat encounter.”

“I’m glad the Switch version is being handled properly,” one user writes. “I played on PC for years but would love to play on Switch.”

“The game aged well and was fun without mods,” another replies.

“I played the game without mods,” one user writes, “and it still felt fresh.”

“I’m playing the Steam version and just realized there are no mods,” another replies. “I want to beat that specific portion of the last level :(.”

“I’d love to play it on Switch,” another writes, “but I don’t know if I can live without mod availability.”

“I really hope it’s a remake and not a remaster,” another writes. “With the compatibility issues from 20 years ago, I think a remake is more appropriate.”

When a user asks why KotOR 2 doesn’t have the same mod availability as KotOR, someone replies, “Because it’s a classic.”

“KotOR 1 is a solid game on its own and only really requires patches for compatibility,” another replies.

“I was playing on PC and had to use a mod to beat a specific portion of the last level,” another writes. “I tried playing on Switch and realized it doesn’t have mods.”

“I’m playing on Switch,” another writes, “and I’m just realizing there’s no mods. I’m actually enjoying it, but I was hoping there was a mod I could use to speed things up a bit.”

“I miss modding KotOR,” another replies.

“I don’t think it’s fair to call KotOR 2 a perfect RPG,” someone writes. “The first game is solid, but the sequel has plenty of issues.”

“I’d much rather see a remake than a remaster,” another replies. “The original is too old and needs patches for compatibility, which is more work than a remake.”

“I’m playing on Windows 10,” another writes, “and it works just fine without mods.”
