NBA 2K24 MyCareer mode: Addressing Last Year's Issues
NBA 2K24’s MyCareer mode looks set to address – or at least mitigate – many of the issues that made last year’s career mode unbearable. The NBA 2K series’ career mode is one of the most popular and essential parts of the game, but NBA 2K23’s iteration left a lot to be desired, inspiring one YouTuber to record themselves playing it for 35 hours, with no breaks, to see if it got any better.
Introducing Optional Side Quests
We’re still a few weeks out from the NBA 2K24 release date, but the initial details on MyCareer are already pouring in. The optional side quests introduced in 2K24 look like they’re going to add a lot of variety and depth to the gameplay experience, and the initial reactions from players are overwhelmingly positive. Here’s what you need to know about NBA 2K24 MyCareer side quests.
The MyCareer mode description in NBA 2K24 reads: “Take a deep dive into the world of NBA 2K24’s MyCAREER and embark on unique adventures and challenges that will shape your virtual basketball career.” This simple description is getting fans very excited indeed.
“I’m ready to go on a journey,” one player comments. Another adds, “I’m ready to do what I want, not what they want.” Several say they hope the unique challenges will prevent them from getting bored of playing the same story over and over again. Others say they expect these quests to be challenging, but also rewarding.
It’s worth noting that the mode description above specifically says “unique adventures and challenges,” so it’s possible that these side quests will just be a few one-off tasks and opportunities that you can choose to do or skip. However, there has been some speculation that 2K24’s MyCareer could feature a series of serialized missions that take you on a journey throughout the season, similar to NBA 2K19’s “The Way Back” storyline.
The reception to NBA 2K23’s career mode was largely negative – we called it “a complete disaster” in our NBA 2K23 review – so the developers have a lot to prove. Adding a series of optional side quests is a great start, but the success of 2K24’s MyCareer will largely depend on how well these storylines are implemented and executed.
