The Raspberry Pi CyberKeeb 2040

The Raspberry Pi CyberKeeb 2040 is a nostalgic throwback to the early days of cyberdecks and hacking, and it’s a lot of fun. Combining a Pico with a Pi Zero, the keyboard can function as both a regular keyboard and a cyberdeck, and it’s completely open source.

Created by NoSegfaultPlz, who has a history of similar designs, the project utilises the Raspberry Pi Pico microcontroller as both a keyboard and a cyberdeck emulator. The Pico runs custom firmware that handles keyboard functionality, while the Pi Zero acts as a display and runs the open-source hacking game Hacknet.

Right now, the Pi Zero can only receive input from the Pico, but there are plans to enable auto-typing. It’s a great first step, but I can see this being greatly expanded for full RPG games.

The CyberKeeb 2040 uses a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W and a Pico, with a full breakdown of the hardware used, including switches and rotary encoders, available on GitHub. All the code is open source, with the Pico firmware called PicoMK available on GitHub.
