Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX introduces a new evolution method with the use of evolution crystals. In earlier instalments of the franchise, players would acquire evolution items to help their Pokemon evolve. However, in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX, these items have been replaced with evolution crystals, which can be found at the end of certain dungeons.

How to Evolve Pokemon in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX

To evolve a base-form Pokemon in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX, players need to give it two Evolution Stones. For the second evolution, four Evolution Stones are required. Once the main story is completed, players can head to Whiscash Pond to evolve their Pokemon if they have reached the required level. Here's a guide on where to find evolution crystals and how to obtain them in the Nintendo Switch game.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX Evolution Crystal Locations

The new mechanic of evolution crystals is central to evolving Pokemon in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX. There are specific evolution crystals for each Pokemon, so players should take note of which crystals they acquire in the dungeon games.

One great place to acquire Evolution Crystals is Waterfall Pond. This location unlocks after defeating Rayquaza and provides access to Pokemon that evolve into Lanturn, Basculin, Bas teno, Basculin stone dweller, Luvdisc, Quillfish, Phanpy, and Simipour. All of these Water-type Pokemon have evolved forms. The better of the two locations is Waterfall Pond, as every Pokemon in this dungeon is Water-type. Players should bring along any Grass-types or strong Electric-types with room-clearing moves to easily clear the room. Lucky players can typically gain five Evolution Crystals with each visit.

Another option is to purchase Evolution Crystals from the Kecleon shops in most dungeons. It is helpful to bring a Bank Orb, allowing players to access Felicity Bank inside the dungeon, so they can withdraw the required amount of money. However, players should be cautious when stealing from Kecleon shops, as it will anger the shopkeeper and cause dangerous enemies to spawn. It is better to rely on guaranteed sources of Evolution Crystals, such as completing high-rank jobs from the Job Board.
