The Star Wars Galaxies Restoration 1.1 Update

A new Star Wars Galaxies Restoration update adds 'planetary control mechanics' to the fan-made revival of the classic Star Wars MMO, as the developers behind SWGR look ahead to the 1.2 update and a 64-bit client that might bring SWGR to Steam.

In the latest Star Wars Galaxies Restoration update, players will have the opportunity to participate in 'Galactic Civil War Campaigns.' The developers have introduced a system that allows players to assign themselves regions of a planet, capture objectives, and defend against enemy attacks.

Completing missions will enable players to rank up, unlocking special abilities, armor and weapon skins, and factional vendors. Additionally, players will be able to see the status of ongoing campaigns and the participating players.

There are several new positions for players to occupy, with 'Commanders' controlling local planetary regions and bases, 'Colonels' controlling planets or the space above them, and 'Generals' in charge of entire systems. Losing a region will result in the loss of rank and any associated bonuses.

The Star Wars Galaxies Restoration 1.1 update also brings a variety of combat overhauls, as well as the opening of a new Humanities Society Menagerie, where players can bid on custom artwork to display in their bases.

There are new profession names, and more than 100 fixes and tweaks. The developers have also updated their development roadmap and made a number of changes to upcoming features based on player feedback and excitement.

The Future: 1.2 Update and Beyond

Looking ahead to the 1.2 update, the majority of the development roadmap has been focused on features for the 1.1 update. The 1.2 update will then shift its focus to Jedi and 'The Force sensitive experience.' Additionally, a 64-bit client is in the works, although there is no release date announced yet.
