Introduction
We all love games, for better or worse. Just like our own name, a good game title really draws us in. Some games will choose to be a little chaotic and give us a title that is, honestly, much too long. What is the longest video game title? We explore the 15 longest video game titles of all time, and how to read them.
Kingdom Hearts Titles
Kingdom Hearts titles are incredibly hard to get into an article like this one, because of the amount of games and spin-offs there are to try and cover. We could write another, separate article just on the Kingdom Hearts titles alone, but we’re going to try and keep this one on the shorter side.
Kingdom Hearts I: Chain of Memories is pretty straightforward: a colon, then Kingdom Hearts. The II: Reminiscence is a bit more confusing, but it’s the same as the first game, only it’s two. The III: Dream Drop Distance is a bit more complicated. The main portion of the title is Dream Drop Distance, then HD and The Sleeping Key as subtitle sub-parts – so it’s really just Kingdom Hearts III.
The fourth game, Kingdom Hearts 4: Dream Drop Distance, is more straightforward, being a clear four and Dream Drop Distance. Finally, Kingdom Hearts III: Blissful Sleep is a much more succinct title, though the word Blissful Sleep doesn’t really mean anything, and the III is optional.
Pokémon Series
The Pokémon series has been going since 1996, and while some titles have been much more popular than others, it’s still a series that’s hard to pin down. Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu and Pokémon Let’s Go Eevee are technically the eighth and ninth main series games, though it’s not like that matters.
The Milk: A Day One Original Soundtrack
A game called The Milk: A Day One Original Soundtrack, is a visual novel about mental health. It’s a really interesting story, and one you can read more about here.
Cthulhu Saves The World
A game called Cthulhu Saves The World, developed by the creators of Earthbound and The Secret Of Monkey Island, won a Guinness World Record for having the longest video game title.
Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix
Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix is a whole new game, with a whole new story, but it’s essentially the same game.
Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars
Arc System Works is well known these days for the electric Rocket League, but it was the predecessor, Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars, that started it all.
F-Zero GX
Like Kingdom Hearts, the F-Zero series is another one that’s just a bit hard to pin down. We’re going with F-Zero GX, since it’s the easiest to read out of all the titles.
Marc Ecko’s Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure
Marc Ecko’s Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure is like Mirror’s Edge in theming. It’s a weird game, but the title is really what sells it, forcing you to read it out loud to yourself.
Half Minute Hero: Special Edition
Half Minute Hero: Special Edition is a wonderfully funny and smart little game, so it’s weird to see the ‘Special Edition’ on the end. It does, however, signify a new character and new story content, so it’s worth checking out.
Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep
Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep is a whole new Kingdom Hearts game, based on the prequel to the first game, and it’s not even a main game. It was released on PS4 recently, but the PS2 original is longer.
Shadow Complex
Metroidvania games are known to be long, so we’re going with Shadow Complex, as it’s one of the better-known games in the sub-genre.
