Best RPG games
What are the best current RPG games? We’ve all got our favorites, and with so many to choose from, it’s hard to decide. Even so, we’ve gone and listed a few of our top picks to help narrow down your options.
From the Mass Effect series to The Witcher 3, the best RPGs can be challenging to choose, with incredible storytelling and character development. It also helps if there’s an open world, a huge monster to slay, or a deep and confusing storyline to unravel. With the release of Baldur’s Gate 3 and Starfield on the horizon, here are some of the best RPGs, including a range of options from historical games to modern ones.
Mass Effect
While very different from each other, the Mass Effect games are praised for their incredible storytelling and character development, making you feel so connected to your squadmates that you can’t help but feel a twang of sadness when one of them perishes. Sure, you could argue that Bioware has slipped in recent years, with Andromeda seemingly having a rough development, but we still have a soft spot for Commander Shepard and the rest of the gang.
If you’re looking for more space adventures, Cyberpunk 2077 is just around the corner, with many believing it could be the Witcher 3 killer. We’ve also got a list of the best RPG games with open worlds if you want something to fill up your free time.
Divinity Original Sin II
Calling all fans of the best rpgs, there’s a very good chance you’ve heard of Divinity Original Sin II. Widely regarded as a contender for the best modern RPG, its greatness isn’t just down to nostalgia. With Baldur’s Gate 3 on its way, and even Starfield generating excitement, there’s never been a better time to dive into the world of Larian Studios’ games.
If you’re looking for something similar, there are some glaring omissions in our list, with many users saying that Disco Elysium falls short compared to its predecessor. For those who aren’t familiar with Larian’s work, we’d recommend jumping in with the RPG game Kingdom Come: Deliverance, it’s an immersive experience unlike anything else.
Cyberpunk 2077
Cyberpunk 2077 is just around the corner, and despite its confusing storyline and overly complicated choices, it’s already shaping up to be one of the best open-world games ever. One small gripe we have is that the choices are a little overwhelming at times, but that’s an integral part of Fallout’s appeal – if you’re looking for a less convoluted experience, we’d recommend The Last of Us instead.
Cyberpunk 2077 has received mixed reviews so far, with some praising the story and side missions, while others are still coming to terms with the game’s initial glitches. Still, if you’re looking for an immersive, open-world experience, it’s hard to go wrong with an RPG game.
Fallout: New Vegas
Bethesda has never been great at making good first impressions, and Fallout 4 is a prime example of that. Thankfully, Fallout: New Vegas is the best Fallout game, and even better than some of the best RPG games in this list. It’s not as pretty or as technically impressive, but it does have a great post-apocalyptic world to explore.
If you’re looking for more survival games, we’ve got a list of the best survival games to keep you entertained.
