The Elder Scrolls Renewal Reveals Plans for 2025 Oblivion Remake Release
The Elder Scrolls Renewal, which includes Skyblivion, has recently announced that the highly anticipated Oblivion remake will be completed by 2025. This news marks a significant milestone for the Elder Scrolls series and offers fans an exciting treat this autumn. The Skyblivion team, a part of the wider Elder Scrolls Renewal project, has provided a detailed breakdown of their progress so far and shared their plans for the future in a recent update video, addressing some of the most pressing questions about the Oblivion remake. After dedicating countless hours to the development of Skyblivion, the team has confirmed their aim to have the project finished by 2025, with the possibility of an earlier release if more volunteers join the endeavor. TheRenewalGame channel explains, "Major cities such as Bravil, Bruma, Chorrol, and our capital city, Leyawiin, are already completed and patiently await integration into the Launcher." The new Leyawiin boasts over 1000 intricately designed cells, and a staggering 87% of the world has been meticulously crafted, including all 803 cells of Blackwood. Blackwood encompasses Leyawiin, numerous dungeons, and the famous Daedric shrines. The team has intentionally saved some sections of the world, such as ancient and Ashland, for last. These areas promise to offer even greater diversity than the original Oblivion. Regarding quests, the Skyblivion project has made significant progress, with 97 out of the 199 quests from Oblivion already playable in Skyblivion's completed areas. The remaining quests are currently being worked on, although a few have not yet been started or are not yet playable. The team reports that they are one-third of the way through the task of navmeshing cells, which involves creating paths for NPCs to follow. This task will primarily be handled by modders, as it will be difficult to modify after the release. NPCs and quests are fully functional in the completed parts of the map. The Elder Scrolls Renewal aims to rectify the lack of post-release content in Oblivion, and the remake will bring back beloved features such as spellcrafting, alchemy, underwater combat, and weather systems. The team is still actively working on classes, magic, attributes, and the speechcraft minigame, which alters NPC dispositions. For the time being, the team has decided to focus 100% on Skyblivion and will not include any expansions like The Shivering Isles in the initial release. However, they plan to work on these expansions after the base game is launched. To play Skyblivion, you will need either Skyrim or Skyrim: Special Edition, as well as a copy of Oblivion. Although this requirement was not previously necessary despite Bethesda owning the assets, the studio has opted to maintain this tradition. If you are interested in contributing to the project, you can visit the Skyblivion volunteers page for more information on how to get involved. While fans eagerly await the release of The Elder Scrolls 6, the launch of Skyblivion will undoubtedly be an exciting prospect for enthusiasts of the series.
