Could the 8th Doctor join Lorcana?
This 8th Doctor fan theory about Lorcana is going to make you feel all the feels, because it’s so very, very possible. We all love Lorcana, but what if the game could get even better? What if the 8th Doctor could be a part of it?
The 8th Doctor, played by Paul McGann, is a cult favourite among fans, and it would be a dream come true to see him join Lorcana. The TV movie featuring the 8th Doctor is a bit of a complex rights issue because of its co-production with Universal Television and broadcast on Fox. Disney now owns Fox, and as such has gained worldwide distribution rights to the Doctor Who series.
Disney’s ownership of Doctor Who presents an opportunity for expansion and tapping into new audiences. Magic: The Gathering is already planning a Doctor Who crossover, but without content from the TV movie. But why not include it? The BBC wants to expand the show’s reach, and licensing the Doctor Who brand for gaming could be a success. Lorcana, a game featuring Disney classics, would be a perfect platform for the 8th Doctor’s inclusion.
After all, he represents the American expansion of Doctor Who. In an ideal world, we’d get the 8th Doctor from the TV movie, but Universal’s cooperation is uncertain. So, another option is to include the 8th Doctor from his appearances in the 50th Anniversary mini-episode and the BBC Centenary special. The specific version of the 8th Doctor doesn’t matter as long as he is a part of Lorcana.
