Gauntlet Remake: Why Hasn't It Happened?
Want to know why there hasn’t been a Gauntlet remake? We all love a good co-op game and Gauntlet Legends is one of the best, so a current-gen remake seems like a no-brainer, but there are a few reasons why this hasn’t happened.
We’re all big fans of a good remaster here at PC Game Spotlight, but there are some games that just don’t get the treatment they deserve. One user wonders why we haven’t seen a current-gen remake of a certain game, and it’s not long before everyone is reminiscing about playing the arcade version in their youth, sharing their fond memories.
“Why hasn’t Gauntlet received a next-gen remake?” the original commenter asks. “I remember playing the arcade version with my brother back in the day and we both thought it was a blast.”
It’s not long before the replies start rolling in, and the memories start flowing. “I used to be able to save my characters with my account name in the arcade version,” one user shares. “That was totally ahead of its time,” another replies. “I loved the Commodore 64 version,” another chimes in. “I remember playing Gauntlet on the NES and N64 with my brother,” one user reminisces.
“There’s been a remake and reboot every few years for Gauntlet over the last 30 years,” another user explains. “The current-gen version is more of an expansion rather than a true remake.”
“I loved the N64 version,” someone else shares. “I would buy a remake tomorrow,” another replies. Then, someone mentions the link to a Steam page for a Gauntlet remake, confirming its existence. “It’s being developed by Warner Bros,” another user replies. “They own the rights now,” they continue. “I’m not sure if they’re the same Warner Bros though,” someone replies, with one comment taking a humorous and unrelated turn.
“Warner Bros remade the first Gauntlet game,” someone else confirms. “The company didn’t exist back then,” another user replies. “It would be impossible for them to remake a next-gen Gauntlet if the company no longer exists.” “They also made Gauntlet Dark Legacy,” someone shares, along with a link to a demo of a remastered version of Gauntlet Dark Legacy, along with a Patreon link for supporting its development.
Finally, someone shares a personal story about attempting to complete the game in one sitting with friends, reminiscing about the good times they all shared together. Check out the comments below to see it for yourself.
Now, who’s up for a Shadow Tower remake? I know I am.
