From Stardew Valley to Deep Rock Galactic
From Stardew Valley to Deep Rock Galactic, these are some of the friendliest, most welcoming communities in gaming. Whether it’s the shared experience of playing the game or the sense of camaraderie fostered by having to work together, these communities are a joy to be a part of.
From the “Rock and Stone” catchphrase used by Deep Rock Galactic players, to the “sense of community” fostered by Stardew Valley, these comments from Reddit and Steam users highlight what makes these gaming communities exceptional. Sometimes it’s a matter of perception – the sense that if you’re playing the same game as them, you’re all in it together – and other times, it’s simply that people are generally willing to help.
“FromSoftware games have a generally very welcoming and supportive community,” one user says. “The mythos surrounding them is that the games are impossible to beat, and that you need to be superhuman to even come close to beating them. Yet, despite this, I find the communities to be very welcoming and willing to help.”
“Stardew Valley has a non-toxic and supportive community,” another replies. “People will share blueprints, help you with quests, and in general are very friendly.”
“I used to think the Dark Souls community was just toxic, but now I know it’s actually very friendly,” another user says, to much agreement. “The community is quick to call out toxic behavior and will absolutely challenge the stereotype of a superiority complex.”
“FromSoftware fans are generally very welcoming and helpful,” another says. “Dark Souls fans will help you with any build you want, and try to help you beat the game.”
“The FromSoftware fanbase is pretty toxic,” another replies. “There’s gatekeeping if you play on PC, toxic players who will spoil the game for you if you play on console, and the subreddit is filled with people who criticize different playstyles.”
“I’m not saying the Elden Ring community is toxic, but they have a reputation for being aggressive and unwelcoming,” another replies. “I saw someone complain that they didn’t get the DLC, and someone else said ‘I don’t care, it’s a bad game anyway.’”
“I love the DRG community, but it can be frustrating when you see acronyms without context and have to go searching for their meaning,” another says. “I still like the community, though.”
“Deep Rock Galactic has an incredibly welcoming and positive community,” another says. “People are always saying ‘rock and stone’ to each other, and I’ve gotten a few friends into it. It’s really nice.”
“I’ve been playing FromSoftware games for over a decade, and the communities have always been really nice and helpful,” another says. “The games are just so difficult that you understand each other’s pain, and are willing to help.”
“The common theme here is that the communities are warm and welcoming,” another replies. “They’re the opposite of toxic and serve as examples of how games can foster a sense of camaraderie and support among players.”
