The Evoker Legendary questline from Dragonflight Patch 10.1 has spawned an amusing new meme in World of Warcraft, as the item-loyal fan Nasz’uro turns their quest text into a copypasta meme. It’s not just the legendary item that’s likely to be memorable, however, as the way that the text is broadcast to everyone on the server triggers some typical meme behaviors.
Players who defeat Sarkareth in the Aberrus raid have a chance to loot the Cracked Titan Gem, setting them on a questline to craft Nasz’uro, the Unbound Legacy – one of the best Evoker raids weapons in the MMORPG game. Upon completion of the questline, a text block is broadcast to everyone on the server.
“Even now, when the earth shakes, I fear that which remains within me shall awaken, to destroy, to devour,” the text reads. It’s a nice enough quote, but the fact it is sent to everyone on the server has already started to encourage people to pair it with some typical fluffy image macros.
The fact that Nasz’uro’s broadcast is unique compared to other legendary memes such as Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker and Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa’s Rest really just comes down to the fact that its range is so great. Many players will find it humorous, but others feel the old chestnut about overexposure coming back to bite them.
“I’m kinda losing it though because this is getting to be a bit much with all the warnings,” one player says in the Evoker Discord. “They definitely need to either shrink the range or cut it off after we see it once, at least for people that do multiple builds.”
There’s no way of knowing whether this will be addressed in future Dragonflight updates, but whether or not Nasz’uro’s announcement will be toned down, it’s already made its mark in the world of World of Warcraft. It’s already more memorable than Rhonin’s “Citizens of Dalaran” speech, Mankrik’s Wife, and Leeroy Jenkins combined.
It’s up there with the best in the sandbox game, for sure, and we’ll be laughing about Nasz’uro’s announcement for years to come – just like Billie Dee Williams, if you’ll forgive the meme comparison.
