Assassin's Creed Mirage: A Scaled-Back Stealth Game
Assassin’s Creed Mirage will take around 20 hours to beat, according to the Assassin’s Creed Reddit AMA, as the stealth game’s release date nears. The developers compare the length of Mirage to the first few games in the Assassin’s Creed series, which aligns with the idea of a scaled-back Assassin’s Creed game, aimed squarely at players who find recent installments too bloated.
We already knew Assassin’s Creed Mirage runtime will fall somewhere between the first few entries in the series, but an exact figure wasn’t given. However, in a follow-up Q&A on the Ubisoft forums, members of the development team provide a few more concrete answers about the upcoming game.
“Since we didn’t share an exact playtime, I can confirm that Mirage is closer in playtime to the first Assassin’s Creed games (1 and 2),” narrative director Sarah Beaulieu writes. “While we didn’t share an exact playtime, it’s safe to assume it’s somewhere between 15 to 30 hours, possibly around 20 to 25 if you don’t complete any side content.”
This is a pretty vague estimate, but it does suggest that Assassin’s Creed Mirage will take a little longer than the likes of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, which sits at around 15 to 20 hours without any additional content. You can also add a few hours on top if you do decide to complete side content in the first game, and even more if you’re a completionist.
With a shorter runtime, the varied ways to approach an Assassin’s Creed game suddenly become more apparent. Some players might find that 20 hours is plenty, while others might feel like they’re just getting started after the first few hours. Of course, this variability is a big part of what makes the series so special.
With longer games like Odyssey taking over 60 hours to complete, Mirage’s shorter runtime is a refreshing change, even if you’re a completionist. We already know that there are currently no plans for Assassin’s Creed Mirage DLC or extensive post-launch updates, and the devs also reveal that Mirage started its life as Assassin’s Creed Valhalla DLC before becoming its own standalone game.
“Making DLC for what was once a DLC might be a bit too much to handle at the moment, especially for a game that aims for a stripped-back Assassin’s Creed experience,” we wrote in our Assassin’s Creed Mirage preview, which you can also read here.
