Borderlands Movie Release Date

What is the Borderlands Movie release date? We’re getting closer to the Borderlands movie release date, and we’ve got all the latest news and rumors, including casting, plot, and more.

We’re hoping for a good Borderlands movie because we’re huge fans of the series, but previous video game movie adaptations haven’t had the best track record. That said, we want to believe that the cast and crew of this action-comedy can overcome the odds, so here’s what we know so far about the Borderlands movie.

Borderlands Movie Release Date Speculation

The Borderlands movie release date is August 24, 2024. It was originally scheduled for release in July, but 20th Century Fox moved it to August at the last minute.

Eli Roth, director of the Saw and Hostel films, will helm the movie based on Gearbox Software’s popular action-RPG game. It’s one of several video game adaptations Roth has worked on, so we’re hoping that his track record with games like Final Fantasy and Dragonball Z can help Borderlands stand out from the crowd.

Borderlands Movie Cast

Eli Roth has officially confirmed the Borderlands movie cast. Kevin Hart will voice Roland, the hulking, heavily-armored Borderlands 2 hero. He’ll be joined in the cast by Cate Blanchett as Calypso, the Siren who runs the pirate haven of Libertalia, and Clifton Collins Jr. as the nomadic chancer Mordecai.

Some fans have expressed their disappointment with the casting choices, citing Roland’s stoic and hearty demeanor in the games as a reason why Kevin Hart would be a poor choice. The comedian has made a name for himself with loud, goofy characters, and many fans point out that Hart has played similar roles in most of his films and TV shows.

On the other hand, some fans see the potential for Hart to bring something new and unexpected to the role, and some are simply happy that Roland will be voiced by a recognizable actor. Florian Muntenau, who voiced Krieg in Borderlands 3, is also joining the cast, which is good news for fans of the German Let’s Player and Twitch streamer.

Borderlands Movie Plot

As of yet, there’s no Borderlands movie plot, but we do have some insight into what we might expect from the upcoming film.

In an interview with Conan O’Brien, Eli Roth suggested that the Borderlands film will be like Jumanji but set in a wasteland. He also confirmed that the movie will adapt the events of Borderlands 2, so fans of the RPG game should expect to see the return of the Crimson Raider Lilith and the Scooter-riding Moustache Man.

There’s also speculation that the Borderlands movie will be a “soft reboot” of the franchise, allowing the film to sidestep the negative reception of the first two games in the series. We’re also hoping that the movie will give some love to the underrated third game, which is a personal favorite of ours.
