The Barbie Movie Release Date
With a Movie in the works, there's so much to be excited about, not least learning more about the cast and the plot.
With the Barbie movie release date imminent, there's a buzz among fans of the Mattel doll. While there isn't a trailer just yet, we're desperately trying to suss out who will bring Barbie to life on the big screen, and what her adventure will entail. With speculation on both fronts running high, here's everything we know about the upcoming Barbie movie.
Barbie Movie Release Date Speculation
Mattel recently announced that Barbie will be hitting theaters on June 1, 2021. While it's coming sooner than we all expected, we're glad to see the iconic fashionista's complex and varied story come to the big screen. However, this release date only applies to the USA. With different release dates around the world, this could actually land Barbie on Netflix sometime in 2023.
Barbie Movie Cast
Barbie's got a lot of friends and family, so we hope the film's casting is a secret they can keep until closer to the actual release. With no trailers or promotional material to speak of, it’s safe to say that Barbie's long list of friends and family haven't made the cut, yet.
On top of that, it looks like Barbie will be heading for an adventure alone, considering there doesn't seem to be a romantic interest in the works. We don't know if Barbie will have any trouble with her little sister, Kelly, and (hopefully) nobody has suggested that Skipper's radical fashion sense might need some reining in.
Barbie Movie Plot
Since there aren't any trailers for the Barbie movie out yet, we're not sure exactly what to expect from Mattel's very first, big screen adventure. All we know is that Barbie will surely be facing some of her most chaotic and endearing adventures yet. With that in mind, don't expect a high-stakes crime drama, or a gritty slasher movie. Instead, it's far more likely that the Barbie movie will capture the magic and charm of the long-enduring doll, as she hops a caravan and blows horseflies out of the water.
Whether Barbie ends up in the frozen glaciers of Ken's hometown or otherwise, there's no need to worry. This film is sure to be as delightful and captivating as Clique's Rainfall Walker put it, "... it captures everything about Barbie - the sparkly shoes, the pink Corvette, the dream house...".
Of course, Barbie has no shortage of movies which could be used for inspiration. With Barbie turning 60 this year, there's no better time for Hollywood to jazz up one of the doll's classics. We want to see Barbie & Friends: A Fairy Secret, Barbie: A Fashion Fairytale, Barbie in A Mermaid Tale, Barbie & The Diamond Castle, Barbie: Mariposa and the Fairy Queen, and even Barbie Presents Thumbelina. It doesn't even have to be accurate, as Josie Moran puts it, "I mean, the Barbie movies are never really the same as the games or comics anyway".
Barbie Movie Trailer
There are no official Barbie movie posters yet, either. However, Mattel recently revealed the official Barbie movie logo, as well as a plush doll rendition of the reboot's Barbie. You can check out the Barbie Mount-Blendar movie poster below.
Barbie Movie Director
It's been confirmed that Alethea Jones is directing the Barbie movie, so hopefully, this will be an endearing portrayal of the teen titan.
