What is your most memorable boss battle?
We asked the question in the PC Game Spotlight comments, and the answers are absolutely bonkers. Boss fights mentioned include Ornstein and Smough in Dark Souls, The Boss in Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater, Psycho Mantis in MGS, and Liquid Ocelot in MGS4.
Other standout battles include that giant spider in Shadow of the Colossus, the final fight in God of War 3, and the unforgettable final battles in both Bioshock and Metal Gear Solid 4. We've got a list of boss battles that you've mentioned in the comments below.
“That’s a pretty good question,” one commenter says, before listing the following:
Some users mention funny boss battles, like that giant Bomberman in Super Bomberman 2 (“You just can’t beat Gigant Bomberman”), or the recurring orc captain in Shadow of Mordor (“This orc kept killing me, over and over”). Others talk about the difficulty of certain bosses – Mysterio from Spiderman 2 is “one of the toughest, especially for a kid who just got the game for his birthday.”
But for me, the most memorable boss battle is Ceadeus from Monster Hunter 3. The music, the camera angles, the way it fights – all of it is absolutely perfect. It’s a fight that defines the game, and sets the tone for the rest of the series. I also remember having to use the Monster Hunter Wiki to figure out how to beat it as a kid. I did, and it was worth it.
And if you want to talk about bosses that are yet to come… well, I’m looking forward to some bosses in games like FF16 and FFXVI, but what about you? Leave a comment below.
