Play as a dragon in these PC games:
Pathfinder: The Dragon-Blooded – Flames Rising
The newest Pathfinder title includes a questline that rewards players with the ability to transform into a Gold Dragon. While the questline is part of the larger Flames Rising expansion, players can jump in and start their dragon training without having to buy the DLC. Once they complete their training, players can start wreaking havoc as a chonky red dragon, devouring villagers and tearing down castles.
Reign of Fire
Reign of Fire is a video game adaptation of the movie of the same name. While the movie is more of a post-apocalyptic action-adventure, the game is a strategy game that allows players to play as both a human and a dragon. The humans are out to stop the dragons from destroying the world, which means the player has the ability to take to the skies as a dragon and fight against humans in a number of different environments.
Dragon Rage
Dragon Rage lets players wreak havoc as a chonky red dragon, devouring villagers and tearing down castles. This top-down arcade game lets you fight against an army of guards, knights, and archers as you attempt to destroy villages. You can also unlock other dragons to play as, including a chonky green dragon.
Dragon Spirit
Dragon Spirit is a fantasy shoot-’em-up game that puts players in control of a dragon out to save the world from evil. A cult has risen to power and is out to destroy the world. The player’s dragon is out to stop this evil. As with many shoot-’em-ups, the game progresses as the player shoots down enemies and bosses. It’s a simple game, but a fun one.
I Of The Dragon
In this creation and destruction simulator, the player creates and destroys as they fight against an evil cult. The player is out to save their people from the cult’s nefarious plans. While this could have been a simple tower defence game, I Of The Dragon has a lot more going on as the player creates and destroys in order to stop the cult.
Fire and Steel
Fire and Steel lets players take to the skies as a dragon and fight against Nazis in World War II. This game is a lot like the arcade classic, Ikaruga, only with a dragon instead of a ship. Players can fly around, shooting down enemies while trying to avoid black and white bullets.
Spyro the Dragon
Of course, we had to include the iconic dragon known as Spyro, a beloved gaming icon known for his gliding, hunting, and fire-breathing gameplay. Though the series has fallen on hard times, Spyro is still a fan-favourite and has inspired a lot of gamers to pick up a controller thanks to his simple, but enjoyable gameplay.
Hoard
Hoard is a strategy game where you burn villages and gather loot in quick matches. Hoard is a simple game where you take over the map by destroying your enemies and then stealing their loot. While this may seem like it doesn’t allow the player to play as a dragon, you still get to breathe fire and cause a lot of destruction.
Spyro Reignited Trilogy
The Spyro Reignited Trilogy is a lot like the original three games but remastered in HD. Like the classic games, the Spyro Reignited Trilogy lets players glide, hunt, and breathe fire in three fun platformer games.
Divinity: Dragon Commander
Combine strategy, negotiation, and dragon transformation in a unique gameplay experience with Divinity: Dragon Commander. This is a unique game that puts players in the role of a leader of a region, but they also get the chance to transform into a dragon and wreak havoc on the battlefield.
Breath of Fire
While the Breath of Fire series is mostly known for its JRPG gameplay, the series is known for letting players transform into dragons. Each game has its own way to transform, so if you want to play as a dragon, you’ll have to check out all of the Breath of Fire games, starting with the first, Breath of Fire.
And those are all the games we could find where you play as a dragon or at least transform into one. If you know any other games where you can play as a dragon, let us know in the comments.
