Can you use PlayStation VR2 on a gaming PC?
It’s been just over a week since the PlayStation VR2 has been available, and we’re already wondering if the new PlayStation VR is compatible with our gaming PC. The last generation headset, known colloquially as the PlayStation VR, came with a caveat – it was only compatible with PlayStation 4.
We’re hoping that the answer to the question ‘Can you use PlayStation VR2 on a gaming PC?’ is yes, particularly since the new PlayStation VR has so much potential. It features a number of improvements over its predecessor, including improved visuals, a new controller design, and even enhanced tracking capabilities. Of course, the PlayStation 5 was designed with the PSVR2 in mind, but does that mean it can’t work with a gaming PC? We’re going to find out.
Can you use PlayStation VR2 on a PC?
Currently, you cannot use the PlayStation VR2 on a PC. It appears that Sony has made the decision to keep the new VR headset exclusive to its own console.
While this may look like a strategic move to encourage gamers to pick up the PlayStation 5, the decision may be more practical than anything. After all, the PSVR2 was designed specifically with the PlayStation 5 in mind, and its improved specs are geared towards the console’s hardware.
If Sony were to enable PC compatibility, it would likely have to find a way to lower the headset’s performance to account for mid-range and entry-level gaming PCs. This could be a considerable challenge, and it could negatively impact the user experience.
Virtual reality gaming is still in its infancy, but Sony’s exclusivity may help it gain a strategic foothold in the market. PC gamers who want to experience VR may have to look into other VR headset options, such as the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.
That said, we may still see PlayStation VR2 compatibility on PCs through updates or third-party software. After all, the last PlayStation VR received an update that allowed it to be used on PCs. We may see another similar update for the new PlayStation VR, or Sony may release plans for PC compatibility through official channels. Either way, it’s worth keeping an eye out for future updates or announcements.
