What is Diablo 4 Red Dust? We’re glad you asked. Without giving away too much, you should know that Red Dust is a currency in Diablo 4. We were lucky enough to get a bit of time with the new RPG game during our time at Gamescom, and here is what we found out about Red Dust. Red Dust is acquired from one of the game’s PvP activities, which are open-world areas called the Fields of Hatred.
Fields of Hatred is the Diablo 4 PvP mode where players can attempt to kill each other without consequence. Killing enemy mobs, or players, will yield a currency we haven’t known the name of so far, but we do know you get it whether you or anyone else is on the kill screen. We’ve seen this currency pop up in the menu, and with it so far unconfirmed, we’re going to use Seeds of Hatred in our guide until an official name is revealed.
How to get Red Dust in Diablo 4
So far, we’ve been able to acquire Red Dust in the Fields of Hatred by either killing an enemy, or finishing off the last hit on a slain enemy. This means that if someone else is hitting the target, then when they land the killing blow you will also get a small amount of currency.
You need to take these — which we’ll refer to as Seeds going forward — to the Altar of Extraction point. Right-click to do this; be aware you will drop whatever Seeds you’re holding if you die, or if you leave the Fields of Hatred area. After a short animation, you’ll have Red Dust.
What can you buy with Red Dust in Diablo 4?
So far, the only confirmed way to earn Red Dust is by playing the Fields of Hatred PvP activities. Our time with the game was brief, but the following can be bought with Red Dust in the Diablo 4 field:
Suffice to say, you need to earn Red Dust the hard way, i.e. killing players and enemy mobs, if you want to spend it on these items. There are also Cursed Scrolls to spend Red Dust on, as well as cosmetics and mounts we haven’t seen yet. However much you make in XP per kill is enough to convert two Seeds at a time, so you can at least stockpile safely.
Note that you don’t need to spend all the Red Dust you’ve earned when you’re at an Altar, so keep that in mind if you accidentally drop it all while trying to move it out of the open world.
That’s it for our Diablo 4 Red Dust guide. Make sure you nail down all the essential Diablo 4 tips and tricks, and keep your eyes on our Diablo 4 Fast Fouling Guide for the best ways to raise your character fast – especially if you want to reach the Diablo 4 level cap.
