As the Diablo 4 Sorcerer slowly becomes the new Wizard in Diablo 4, players are rushing to unlock its skill tree, which offers a delightful assortment of creative Diablo 4 spells. Having been around since the original 1996 game, Diablo 1, Sorcerers offer a unique set of skills that makes them especially fun to play in a game where literally every other class is a Barbarian.
We were told in the Diablo 4 open beta that Necromancers were expected to be highly played, and the nerfs to the class in the final game resulted in a shift in popularity. However, now that the game is out, it looks like literally everyone is playing a Sorcerer. There’s a guy named Gandalf with Legendary robes, wearing a wizard hat, and holding a staff that, by all appearances, looks exactly like the one you get at the beginning of the game. And, as he levels up, he just gets a glow on his staff that exactly matches the one emanating from the center of his robe.
The Necromancer, in comparison, is flavorful. Their entire theme is manipulating the dead, skeletons, and blood. In addition to summoning skeleton hordes, their Death Nova spell causes the Necromancer to essentially dissolve their entire body into a cloud of blood red mist – a spell that a Sorcerer cannot do, which is pretty flavorful itself.
There’s no question that the open beta activities got people excited about the Necromancer, but the changes made to the class in the final game have left some frustrated. If you want to play a cold-weather Wizard who spends their time in the mountains, the Sorcerer is your only option, and some say that the class is too weak when compared to Barbarian and Crusader. On the other hand, its skill tree offers players a delightful assortment of creative Diablo 4 spells that literally allow you to paint the screen with fire, lightning, and ice. The Sorcerer is popular now, but it’s likely that as players hit the level 100 cap, the damage done by the Barbarian and the armor offered by the Crusader will become insurmountable.
Regardless, if you want to play a unique, flavorful, and fun magic user in Diablo 4, the Sorcerer is certainly worth a spin – if only to see what the Necromancer would look like without the changes in the final game.
