Looking for more canceled Disney movies?
After all, the House Of Mouse has a reputation for abruptly ending movies with a lot of promise. The animated film studio has made a habit of acquiring successful movie series, then giving them one (or several) entry(s) before canceling them.
While many of these movies were part of a series, there were a lot of stand-alone films, too. Some were in the works before the movie studio made the decision to axe the project, while others were in development with scripts, animatics, and voice actors attached.
Here are some of the canceled Disney movies that could have been:
Meet The Robinsons 2: First Date
Disney once had plans to make Meet The Robinsons 2: First Date, a sequel to the 2007 animated film. The movie was going to follow Lewis' daughter, Lydia, who was introduced in the first movie. The plans for the sequel were scrapped in favor of a television series (which has also been canceled).
Snow White prequel
Before the live-action Snow White and the Huntsman hit theaters in 2012, Disney had plans for a CGI prequel to the famous fairytale. The prequel, which was titled Winter and aimed to expand on the characters of Snow White and the Wicked Queen, never got past the early development stages.
Jack And The Beanstalk
Jack And The Beanstalk was a comedic-musical Disney-style movie that was canceled in 2017. The film would have been based on the classic tale of Jack and the Beanstalk.
Aristocats 2
There was once a script and animatics for an Aristocats 2, a planned sequel to the 1970 Disney film. However, the movie never made it very far in development and was canceled.
Newt
Newt, a Pixar film about two different species of people who need to save their world from a dangerous creature, was canceled due to production issues. The movie, which was to be directed by Dan Scanlon, was officially scrapped in 2018.
The Search For Mickey Mouse
According to former Imagineer Tony Wong, a project called The Search For Mickey Mouse was started in the 1980s. The project would have been a film about Mickey's friends searching for him. This film was canceled due to disagreements between The Walt Disney Company and creator, Walt Disney.
Disney's live-action Wizard Of Oz
While films like The Jungle Book and The Chronicles Of Narnia were successful at adapting their source material into live-action films, Disney tried to make a live-action version of The Wizard Of Oz in the 1950s. The project was abandoned after repeated disagreements between the studio, MGM, and author L. Frank Baum.
Disney animated film collaboration with Roald Dahl
According to Tony Wong, a Disney animated film collaboration with Roald Dahl was canceled. Though it is unclear what exactly this film would have been about, Dahl wrote several famous children's books, including James And The Giant Peach, Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, and The BFG.
Fraidy Cat
Fraidy Cat, a feline-led film, was not produced into a theater release. The movie would have been based on the book of the same name, which follows the journey of a stray cat as he travels around the city. The film was in development sometime in the 2000s.
Who Framed Roger Rabbit sequel set during World War 2
A sequel to Who Framed Roger Rabbit, titled Who Discovered Roger Rabbit, was planned but never happened. The film would have been set during World War 2 and would have featured the Toons joining forces with the Allies against the Nazis.
