Anthem

Wish you could have played some of these games with better support? Some games had great potential but sank under the weight of poor decisions and lack of support. We’ve seen games with fantastic premises and innovative mechanics fail due to a lack of care or development. Others could have been great if made by someone else.

Anthem is the standout example for me. I was an Anthem fan in the beginning. I played it religiously for the first few months and enjoyed every minute. But then, EA and BioWare stopped updating the game and it went downhill quickly. Now, I find myself avoiding the game, even when a friend recommends it to me. These games could have been great if they’d had better support.

Here are some games that many users feel could have been great if made by someone else or had better support.

Hood: Outlaws and Legends

Hood: Outlaws and Legends had an interesting premise. You play as the descendant of a famous outlaw who has to complete missions and kill enemies in order to gain power and progress in the game.

There was a lot of potential for this game, but it didn’t quite deliver. The developers promised constant content updates and better support, but it wasn’t enough. User reviews on Steam echo the same sentiment. It was a game with a lot of potential but was abandoned by the developers.

Brink

Brink was, at one point, a game that many people were excited about. It combined the mechanics of shooters and team-based games with the unique idea of allowing players to use abilities and powers to change the course of a shootout.

Brink had a lot of potential and could have been successful if handled differently. The main issue was that the game launched with too little content. It was a game that needed updates and support, but they didn’t come and the game faded into obscurity.

Evolve

Evolve could have been a bigger success if it had launched as free-to-play from the start. As a shooter game with a 4v1 setup, it had a lot of potential.

But the game was mostly a success because of its microtransactions and loot boxes. The game received mixed reviews, and it’s clear that it failed to live up to its potential. If developers Turtle Rock Studios had gone free-to-play from the start, Evolve could have become a massive hit.

Warhammer MMO

The Warhammer MMO was a rushed mess. EA wanted to get in on the Warhammer 40K MMO gravy train, so they bought the rights, hired some developers, and threw the game out the door.

The result was a game with a lot of bugs, glitches, and an unbalanced PvP. The Warhammer MMO is one of the most expensive failures in the history of video games. The developers were clearly in a rush to get the game out and didn’t put enough work into it.

Avengers

Avengers was a game that many fans were excited about. It was a Marvel game with a lot of hype behind it. But the game itself was a disappointment for many.

Many players felt that the game was sloppy and cheesy. The story was weak and the gameplay was unbalanced. It was a massive Marvel Cinematic Universe crossover, but it felt like a cheap fanfic.

Saints Row reboot

The Saints Row series is known for its insanity and the weirdness of its gameplay. The Saints Row reboot ignored fan feedback and went full Hollywood, giving us a very standard, borderline generic open-world game.

While the original games were sometimes a bit crazy, they had heart and soul. The reboot felt like a cheap knockoff of Grand Theft Auto, without the pizzazz and soul of the originals.

Warcraft 3 Reforged

Warcraft 3 Reforged was a train wreck of a remaster. It was a bad idea from the start. Remastering a classic game that’s still playable from three decades ago is questionable, but removing a core game from the original remastered game is a massive disaster.

Warcraft 3 Reforged tried to fix a game that didn’t need fixing. It removed the classic Warcraft 3 from the original game at the behest of fans, which is a big no-no. The game was a massive success, but it was all smoke and mirrors.

Hellgate London

Hellgate London was a unique game that could have evolved into a successful franchise. It combined FPS with RPG and had a unique art style.

But Hellgate London was a victim of a publisher pushing the game out before it was ready. There were a lot of issues at launch, and the developers couldn’t fix them because they didn’t have the time or money. The game lacked content and support, and it remains one of the biggest EA failures of all time.

Dragalia Lost

Dragalia Lost was doing well, but Nintendo axed it anyway. Despite having a dedicated fanbase and a good amount of success, Nintendo decided to axe the game and move the developers to other projects.

Dragalia Lost was a gacha game that many players found to be less manipulative than other similar games. It had good gameplay, an interesting story, and a strong community. It was a good game that could have become an even better game with time and support.
