A Diablo 4 player has stumbled upon a colossal version of the game’s Butcher, which they have dubbed the real Lord of Terror. While running nightmare dungeons with friends, Reddit user Ironheart_777 saw the normally-sized butcher grow larger and larger as they fought. The terrifying enemy, which grew to take up half the screen, is a sight to behold, and has generated a lot of interest among players.

“We were doing a nightmare Greater Rift with some friends and this appeared. The Butcher grew bigger as we killed his minions,” Ironheart_777 explains. The massive Butcher is significantly larger than the default version, and is the largest version of the enemy they have seen in their time with the RPG game. It’s a terrifying sight.

There are several theories surrounding this rare enemy. It’s possible that the dungeon had the Avenger modifier, causing enemies to grow in size and damage as nearby monsters are killed. While that would explain Ironheart_777’s observation, it would be a very lucky pull to get the modifier in a Greater Rift.

There is another explanation, though. The Diablo 4 team has been keen to add environmental hazards to dungeons, and it’s possible that the Butcher grew as a result of the party damaging the environment. This would explain why the enemy is so much larger than normal and would naturally occur without the need for a modifier.

Whatever the reason for the massive Butcher, it’s certainly an impressive sight, and one that players would love to witness for themselves. If you want to find the big guy yourself, PC Gamer has a guide on where to locate him. Just be prepared for a tough battle – the default Butcher is already challenging enough.
