YouTuber Creates Life-Sized Doppelganger with 3D Printer
A YouTuber has successfully 3D printed a life-sized doppelganger in 108 hours, after starting the process with a photograph of themselves. The impressive build volume of 1,110mm x 1,110mm x 2,005mm is what allowed the vlogger to create the 1:1 scale model, though they did run into a few problems along the way.
The YouTuber, who is better known for creating a 3D printed go-kart and a 3D printed tank, explains that prepping the heated printing bed proved to be the biggest challenge. They originally tried using a heated bed mat, but it wasn’t giving the necessary level of heat.
After experimenting with using underfloor heating cables, the heated bed proved to be effective, allowing the model to print without any issues. The model itself consists of 4,375 layers of red PLA filament, which took 108 hours to print.
While the design files for the frame are available for purchase, the vlogger doesn’t mention if they’ll release the 3D twin files just yet. Either way, this is a great example of what can be achieved with a larger build volume.
