Horizon's DLC Update Pays Tribute to Lance Reddick

The latest Horizon update includes a touching memorial for the late Lance Reddick, known for his roles in John Wick and Horizon. Reddick, who passed away earlier this year at the age of 60, was a veteran actor and his fans paid their respects in various ways, including gathering around Commander Savala in Destiny 2.

In Horizon, Reddick portrayed Sylens, a traveling archaeologist who founded the Eclipse and Sons of Prometheus. Developer Guerrilla Games has added an in-game memorial to commemorate Reddick's time with Horizon, which includes additional lines voiced by the late actor.

Located on the first island players visit in the DLC, the memorial is a floating transparent disc with 'Lance Reddick' written in the middle, next to Aloy. YouTuber Elkyri has shared a video showing how to reach it, accompanied by touching music as you approach.

The placement of the memorial holds additional meaning, as Reddick's virtual star is on the ground level, echoing the crescent-like shape of the area, while Aloy's bronze bust is on the raised level, reminiscent of the layout of the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

While some may assume this was an intentional design, it is equally possible that the development team did not consider this connection. However, this does not diminish the emotion and poignancy of the tribute, which is sure to impact anyone touched by Reddick's work in Horizon or other projects, such as Fringe.

Reddick was well-known for his voice acting skills and had contributed his talent to various Blizzard games in recent years. Apart from his memorable roles in Destiny 2 and Horizon, he portrayed numerous characters in the Hearthstone series, World of Warcraft, and other games.

After Reddick's passing, fans gathered in-game to kneel around Savala, the Harbinger Hero, as a show of respect for his contributions to the game. The Horizon tribute holds a similar impact for the gaming community.

In a statement, Reddick's widow, Stephanie Reddick, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming love and support the family has received. She mentioned that Reddick was deeply proud of his work in the gaming community and that conversations about his work brought him great joy. To honor his legacy, contributions will be made to the Jackson Hole Artists Association and The Greater Alpine Humane Society, a local animal shelter.

The Horizon Forbidden West tribute, along with the tribute in Destiny 2, demonstrates the profound impact Reddick has had on both the gaming and film communities even after his passing. It serves as a reminder of Reddick's incredible talent and the significant legacy he leaves behind.
