Mortal Kombat 1's DLC Crossover

Mortal Kombat 1’s DLC will feature a crossover with The Invincible, as Omni-Man will be reprising his role in the gory fighting game, as confirmed by JK Simmons at San Diego Comic-Con.

The Walking Dead and Invincible creator, Robert Kirkman, expresses his joy at the crossover, while also sharing his humorous attempts to get in touch with Ed Boon, co-creator of Mortal Kombat, for years.

Omni-Man, Homelander, and Peacemaker Join the Roster

Omni-Man will be the first DLC character in Mortal Kombat 1, followed by The Boys’ Homelander and Suicide Squad’s Peacemaker. The roster also includes Quan Chi, Ermac, and Takeda as Kombat characters.

Simmons, who voices Omni-Man in the show, will be providing audio for the game, as confirmed by NetherRealm Studios story and voiceover director Dominic Cianciolo on Twitter.

Kirkman, who created The Walking Dead and Invincible, among other popular comics, shares his excitement about the crossover. “I have to say, I’m a huge fan of what NetherRealm does with their games and I’ve been a huge fan of Mortal Kombat since I first started doing The Walking Dead,” he says.

“I remember when I was doing the first issue of The Walking Dead where there’s that big, gory scene at the beginning, a lot of that came from watching all those Mortal Kombat fatality meetings that I was invited to. I just loved being in those meetings and seeing what they were doing and how they were coming up with all those crazy moves.”

Kirkman also acknowledges that his own work has been influenced by Mortal Kombat, and even jokes that he thought Boon was ignoring his attempts to start a friendship with him.

“I’m a huge fan of all the characters that they’ve done and all the work that the team does,” Kirkman says. “I’m really excited that Omni-Man is coming to the game, I’m really excited about Peacemaker and The Homelander.”
