Mortal Kombat 1 Preview: Motaro and Reiko Return

Mortal Kombat 1 preview footage shown at San Diego Comic-Con reveals the return of two older characters, Motaro and Reiko, who haven’t been on the roster for years. A generous attendee live-streamed the footage, and it hasn’t been shared on the Mortal Kombat YouTube channel, but we’ve got some new details on what to expect from them.

We’ve got some brief footage of both characters, as Motaro starts a fight against Li Mei and later stands alongside Reiko. It’s possible that Motaro is playable, as we’ve seen a fighter that could be him in the roster trailer, but it’s unclear. We do, however, know that Reiko is definitely a cameo fighter, his first semi-playable role since Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, and he looks incredible.

The new characters were revealed alongside other story details, which we covered in our Mortal Kombat 1 preview. Both Motaro and Reiko are working for General Shao, just as they served Shao Kahn in previous games. Their role in the story is unclear, but it seems they may only show up as a roadblock for Liu Kang and Li Mei, who were revealed earlier this year as playable characters.

Mortal Kombat 1 is set to launch on September 19, so there’s not long to wait to see how these characters fit into the game. Make sure you check out all the Mortal Kombat 1 characters that we know about so far, and get ready for the bloody Fighting game’s launch.
