The next Mortal Kombat 1 character

The next Mortal Kombat 1 character has been hinted at by Ed Boon ahead of the San Diego Comic-Con, with a lot of evidence pointing to a certain fan-favourite making their way to the fighting game.

Revealing a new character

Following the announcement of Mortal Kombat 11, Boon and the voice actors revealed the first character for the upcoming Mortal Kombat game – Kitana. This year, Boon says he’ll be revealing a new character, with a GIF of some 3D glasses hinting at a character from the 3D era.

“Next up… 3D MK!” Boon teases in a tweet that includes a gif of some 3D glasses. While the gif is simply meant to indicate a character from the 3D era, there’s a lot of evidence that points to fan-favourite Ashrah making her way to the fighting game.

Voice actor hints

The most recent rumour regarding the next character comes from voice actor Kelly Hu, who previously voiced Ashrah in Mortal Kombat Deception. While it’s certainly possible that Hu isn’t reprising the role, her involvement certainly suggests that Ashrah is in the running.

Additionally, Boon’s tweet about Mortal Kombat not just being a “video game” hints at some surprises ahead. Could we see an animated movie or some surprise Mortal Kombat 2 tie-in content? Only time will tell.

With the upcoming SAG-AFTRA strikes in mind, Boon’s comments about surprises may imply that some features have yet to be implemented in the game. We’ll be sure to keep you updated from San Diego Comic-Con.
