The Last of Us Part 2 may be getting a remaster or expanded rerelease, judging by The Last of Us Part 2 composer Gustavo Santaolalla’s comments. The long-standing rumor mill surrounding the franchise has suggested a director’s cut version of the game is on the way, and Santaolalla’s comments support this – with a hint at something more.
The Last of Us has always had its fair share of rumors swirling around it, from the possibility of a sequel, to the alleged physical release of a director’s cut. The latter has been persistent, with fans speculating that a PC release and PS5 arrival for The Last of Us Part 2 would mean an extended version of the game would also be on the way.
Until now, however, evidence for this extended version of The Last of Us Part 2 has been sparse – but Santaolalla’s comments support the idea that a new version of the game is already in the works.
“I’m in Jackson, and there’s a virtual version of myself,” Santaolalla says in an interview with Blender, when asked how he’d change the opening hours of the game if given the chance.
“In a new version, you can interact with me and request specific songs. In the original version, I just played songs I liked.” The fact that Santaolalla is clearly being careful with his words here, and sounds like he’s being careful not to say too much about this new feature, suggests that there is definitely something in the works.
