Elden Ring's Floating Ruins: Unveiling the Secrets of Crumbling Farum Azula
The Elden Ring floating ruins are actually part of Crumbling Farum Azula, a giant floating temple that appears at the end of the Elden Ring DLC. This royal city, ruled by Dragonlord Placidusax and hinting at a dragon civilization predating the era of the Erdtree, is perhaps the most mysterious location in the game. Now that we’ve solved its location, we can finally analyze the lore contained within.
The theories surrounding the location of Crumbling Farum Azula are numerous, but we now know the location to be in Limgrave. While it’s possible the city could be in the water, on land, or even in the sky, the theory that’s most consistent with the game’s world-building and logic is that it was torn from the Bestial Sanctuary, explaining the scattered ruins and the Farum Greatbridge guarded by a dragon.
Crumbling Farum Azula is similar in design to the Bestial Sanctum in Caelid, suggesting a possible connection between the two. In addition, we know the city contains statues depicting beasts, dragons, and the aforementioned gods, including a giant statue of the Gloam-Eyed Queen. So, as you can see, there’s plenty of evidence to support the theory that Crumbling Farum Azula is part of the Bestial Sanctuary.
Fragments scattered near the ruins are believed to be part of a temple in the sky, further linking them to Crumbling Farum Azula. If you look closely at the background, you can see what appears to be a floating building, which matches the aforementioned fragments.
