If I could go back in time and stop one game from being made, which game would it be and why?

One question that we all ask ourselves from time to time is, “If I could go back in time, which game would I stop from being made?” Many of us have different answers, depending on our experiences playing different games and reflecting on their good and bad qualities.

With so many games coming out each year, it’s inevitable that some will miss the mark and become a waste of time. In some cases, these games could have been prevented, and if they had, other great games would have been developed in their place. In this thread, users discuss their answers to this question, their reasons, and some of their favorite memories from the games they played.

GTA Online ruined the series,” one user replies. “If they had focused on Bully 2 or another Midnight Club instead of just doing a microtransaction cash grab, they would be making single-player DLC for it now.”

“GTA V was endless hours of fun at launch,” another user replies, “but it has become boring now. It would have made sense to shift focus to Bully 2 but not turn GTA V into a microtransaction simulator.”

There’s a lot of hate for Rockstar’s online games, with many users arguing that they caused the studio to focus on updates for GTA Online instead of creating new games like Bully 2 or another Midnight Club. Others disagree, saying that GTA V provided them with endless hours of fun, although it has become boring for them now since it hasn’t been updated in a while.

“They missed the boat on single-player DLC,” another user replies. “Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and even GTA IV had great expansions. They should have been focused on that instead of microtransactions.”

“GTA Online is a cash cow,” another user says. “It’s an infinite money glitch. I wouldn’t have stopped it, I would have just insisted that they reduce the prices and stop putting out DLC.”

There are a few mentions of mobile games and arcade games that started the trend for microtransactions. Some users suggest that these games should have been stopped before they became so popular, causing other games to follow suit.

“Anthem should have been great,” one user replies. “It’s a shame it was sabotaged by EA. Why can’t they just leave BioWare alone?”

Another user laments, “Blizzard’s reputation has been damaged. They’re becoming more and more greedy with Overwatch 2.” This user goes on to criticize the Overwatch 2 monetization system, gameplay changes, and the removal of features.
