A Half-Life 2 RTX Remaster

A Half-Life 2 RTX remaster is coming, and it looks like we might see it sooner than expected. Nvidia, alongside four top Half-Life 2 mod teams, has announced it’s creating Half-Life 2: RTX as a “comprehensive graphical remaster” of the classic FPS game using the Source engine. The project has the backing of some of the best HL2 mod teams, and it remains to be seen if Valve will be formally involved this time around.

Development on Half-Life 2: RTX has just begun, with the mod teams now known as Orbifold Studios seeking additional help. The team includes modders from various projects, including Igor Zdrowowicz, who was previously working on his own RTX Remix of Half-Life 2.

We’ve seen previous attempts by the community to create a full Half-Life 2 remaster, but the most notable is the Half-Life 2: Remastered Collection by Filip Viktor, who is still working on the project. Viktor’s remaster might release before the RTX Remix version, but it remains to be seen if both remasters will be successful.

In the meantime, be sure to revisit the popular webcomic Concerned HL2 by Christopher Livingston, which parodies the endless possibilities of a Half-Life 2 full remake. You might also want to check out some of the other best FPS games available right now.
