Your Halo fan base is not happy. With Halo Infinite coming out and receiving mixed reviews, the FPS game and the whole Halo universe in general is being called into question. Many fans express disappointment over the lack of couch co-op in recent Halo games, arguing that it was a crucial element that made the earlier games, like Halo CE and Halo 3, so successful.

Fan opinions on the state of Halo

“Halo 3 was the best in the series. The multiplayer, the campaign, the atmosphere, everything about that game was incredible,” one user writes. “ODST was amazing too. I loved the story, atmosphere, gameplay, everything. They dropped the ball hard with Halo 5, and now with Infinite it feels like they’re trying to recapture the magic of those two games, but they can’t do it.”

“I didn’t buy Infinite because there’s no couch co-op,” another user writes. “The back half of Halo 3 was one of my most memorable gaming experiences, and even though I know it’s not a good game, Halo 5’s campaign was still better than Infinite’s because of the co-op.”

Some users point out that the earlier games were well-crafted because of the emphasis on a well-crafted campaign. They criticize Infinite’s copy-paste open world and suggest that 343 should put more effort into creating diverse biomes within the game.

“I’d say Halo 3 and ODST are the peak,” one user writes. “The gameplay was perfect, the atmosphere was great, and the characters were memorable.”

“The lore has become convoluted and overwhelming,” another user writes. “The later games have drowned in their own backstories.”

This comment leads into a discussion about the lore of Halo and its inconsistencies introduced by 343 Industries. “343 has retconned and changed things to the point where the lore is just confusing,” one user writes. “There’s no clear answer to a lot of things and the story is explained very poorly and takes time for the community to unravel.”

“Not to mention the lore is explained poorly,” another user adds. “But it’s not really the lore that’s the problem. The storytelling could definitely be improved.”

“I actually really enjoyed the TV show,” another user writes.

Some users bring up the direction the franchise has taken under 343 Industries and express their desire for a full reboot or, alternatively, a new IP that has the same mechanics of the earlier games.

“It’s become way too self-absorbed,” one user writes. “It lost a lot of its charm and uniqueness. A full reboot or a new IP with similar gameplay would be a great idea.”

However, there are also users who defend the Halo lore. “The lore is not convoluted and overwhelming,” one user writes. “It can be confusing because of how it’s explained, but that’s not a 343 problem.”

“I completely disagree,” another user replies. “The lore is convoluted and overwhelming because of 343’s poor explanations.”

These users continue to debate the lore of Halo and its explanations, as well as specific plot points and characters within the Halo universe. If you’re interested in the Halo franchise and its direction, you’ll probably find this thread worth a read.

Whatever your opinion on the state of Halo and its future, it’s nice to see the fan base still so passionate about the series.
