The wait for Kingdom Hearts Missing Link is starting to feel like a slog, with months passing with little word on the game’s development. The closed beta for Missing Link was going to happen last year, but it was pushed back to the start of 2023. Since then, there have been no updates on the game’s release, leaving fans wondering where it is.
“Where’s Missing Link?” asks prominent Kingdom Hearts YouTuber SkywardWing in a tweet that has since been shared around social media. The joke is clear: Missing Link is, well, missing. But the lack of news about the next Kingdom Hearts game is a notable change from the consistent news flow before the beta test.
Some fans have shared screenshots of the upcoming game on social media, joking about it living up to its name. The Kingdom Hearts subreddit is also filled with posts asking about the game’s release date.
“Tetsuya Nomura said in February that development of the game was ‘50% complete,’ but there hasn’t been an announcement since then,” user Auron4Ever writes. “Is there anything new that we should be expecting? Concerns about the state of the game are definitely rising.”
The concern is natural, but it’s worth remembering that the game has been delayed before, similar to what happened last year. It’s also worth noting that the development team has likely taken its time to rethink the game’s direction, as Nomura mentioned a change in the series’ direction earlier this year.
