Kingdom Hearts Summons

Summoning a companion to turn the tide of battle may seem like a novel idea, but in practice, these allies can be a little underwhelming. That said, they can be incredibly useful in certain situations, so unlocking them all is worth the effort.

Kingdom Hearts 1 Summons

Kingdom Hearts 1 offers a variety of Summons, each with their own uses depending on the enemy you’re facing. The main issue with Summons in Kingdom Hearts 1 is that you’re locked out of some unless you’ve unlocked specific abilities, making their usefulness in the game limited. That said, if you’re looking for a reliable healer in Kingdom Hearts 2, your best options are those you summoned in the first game. Here’s how to unlock every Kingdom Hearts summon and their best uses in the RPG game.

The Best Kingdom Hearts Summons

  • Genie: Automatically unlocked after completing Agrabah, but his abilities are a little underwhelming as your only method of attack is magic, which Genie cannot use. He does provide MP orbs and can restore HP, but you’re better off waiting until you have a few more summons unlocked.
  • Mushu: In Traverse Town, head to the first area of the Keyblade Graveyard after defeating Monstro. From there, take the warp and head left to a hidden area where you can meet the Fairy Godmother. She’ll reward you with Mushu’s summon gem if you give her the Fireglow Gem you obtain from defeating Maleficent. Mushu is a situational summon but can be helpful when taking on groups of enemies. He continually launches fireballs that deal damage to all enemies and explodes on contact with the ground or an enemy, dealing additional damage.
  • Dumbo: Obtain Dumbo’s Watergleam Gem from Monstro’s stomach after defeating the boss. Dumbo makes Sora invincible for a short time and does limited damage to enemies, making him useful against strong enemies or when you’re under attack from several at once.
  • Simba: Obtained by trading the Earthshine Gem obtained from Leon to the Fairy Godmother. He’s useful early on and can deal some good damage, but his usefulness quickly falls off as you progress through the game.
  • Bambi: Obtained by completing Pooh’s Hunny Hunt. He’ll provide you with HP and MP orbs. While it’s not as useful as the other Summons, you’ll be using him frequently as Pooh will accompany you on your journey. Bambi remains useful throughout the game and is particularly helpful when you’re attempting to farm for the best Keyblade in Kingdom Hearts.
  • Tinker Bell: Automatically unlocked after clearing Neverland. She provides you with constant healing and reviving, making her the most useful summon in the RPG game. It’s essentially a “get out of jail free card” as you’ll be able to revive and heal in dangerous situations without having to worry about making a mistake.
