Path of Exile 2 gameplay
Path of Exile 2 will introduce six new classes in addition to the original six. In the trailer above, you can see the new Alchemist, Necromancer, Chieftain, Rogue, Herald, and Druid classes in action. Skill gems will receive a major overhaul, with gems dropping off monsters and being assigned to skills rather than being socketed. This will streamline the process of swapping items and will also remove the need for certain support gems.
Swapping items will be much easier as skills will no longer be tied to item sockets. Instead, skills will be placed in the skill tree and will be governed by spirit, a new resource used to reserve buffs and trigger skills. Spirit will be obtainable through ‘skill-specific sources’ but will also be used to activate items such as mines and traps. This will open up mana for more options, leaving room for more powerful skills.
Meta gems will let you customize your gear even further, letting you socket multiple skill gems inside them. This will allow you to build a single item with multiple skills, such as ice trap, fire storm, and molten shell.
Path of Exile 2 will feature gold as a currency, circumventing the need for microtransactions in the free game. Gold will streamline early game trading by eliminating the need to part with low-value items in order to obtain low-level crafting materials. GGG has also confirmed that gambling will be introduced as a gold sink.
