Increase your Pokemon Go inventory space

Managing your inventory space in Pokemon Go is crucial for battles and raids. No matter how efficient you are at managing it, you'll eventually run out of room. The game starts you off with an Item Bag that can hold 350 items. To increase your inventory capacity, you can purchase Item Bag Upgrades from the PokeShop for 200 PokeCoins each. Each upgrade grants an additional 50-item capacity, with a maximum limit of 3,500 items.

What doesn't count towards storage limits?

While some items count towards your storage limits, there are a few that don't. These include Berries, TMs, and Evolution items. It's best to use them up instead of holding onto them, especially once your strongest Pokemon have the right moves. TMs are rarely needed unless a new Pokemon enters your top ranks.

Earning PokeCoins for upgrades

The traditional way to earn PokeCoins is by challenging and holding a Gym. The Defender Bonus pays out around six coins per hour, meaning you can earn up to 50 PokeCoins in a day if you successfully defend a Gym for a maximum of eight hours and 20 minutes.

If you'd rather save time, you can also purchase PokeCoins directly from the Pokemon Go in-game Shop as in-app purchases. In some places, it's actually cheaper to repeatedly buy 100 PokeCoins instead of buying in bulk. To fully upgrade your inventory storage, you'll need a total of 63 Bag Upgrades, costing 12,600 PokeCoins.

It's worth noting that Niantic occasionally increases the base inventory size, so you won't have to be as strict with getting rid of potentially useful items. However, it's still a good idea to manage your inventory effectively.

How do item bag upgrades work?

Your inventory size is capped at 3,500 items, but it gradually fills up until it reaches the limit. To increase your capacity, you can purchase item bag upgrades, each adding 50 items. You only need to upgrade your bag 19 times to increase your capacity by 450 items, reaching a limit of 3,000 items. Unless you plan on stocking up on items that max out your inventory, one upgrade should be enough, given the base capacity of 350 items.
