Pokemon Scarlet & Violet's Hidden Treasure of Area Zero

Pokemon fans can rejoice, as Pokemon Scarlet & Violet’s unfolding of Area Zero’s treasure trove promises a huge influx of returning creatures to the Paldea region. You can expect to battle with your favorites from the start, alongside a wealth of new friends from different regions. Here’s a list of all the returning Pokemon you can expect in the first round of expansions for the Pokemon adventure game.

It’s no surprise to hear classic Pokemon will return with the Teal Mask expansion, but the wealth of fan favorites blows my mind. We’ve seen a few special Pikachu variations in the main storyline of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, but now the humble Electric rodent will flood the Paldea region with her peers. Pretty much any Pokemon you can think of from previous generations seems to have a representative here, from Drifblim to Registeel.

I’m so happy to see some of my favorites like Charizard and Jigglypuff join in on the fun, but the overall presentation of these Pokemon blew me away. Each returning creature seems unique to the Pokemon games they debuted in, so you can expect various regions’ water-types like Squirtle and Corphish alongside Johto favorites like Chikorita and Totodile. It helps to keep the world of Paldea feeling diverse and natural, while giving both new and veteran players something to celebrate.

This initial influx comes with both the Teal Mask and Indigo Disk expansions, though new creatures are likely to continue well into the next few expansions. The sixth Pokemon game’s dual-release plan ensures players with differing tastes can dive into endless adventures in Paldea, expanding their collection of iconic Pokemon along the way.

Prepare for a nostalgia trip like no other when Pokemon Scarlet & Violet’s Hidden Treasure of Area Zero kicks off in 2022, adding even more returning Pokemon alongside new regions and quests. If you’re looking for a place to start with these iconic creatures, we recommend these the seven best returning Pokemon in Pokemon Sword and Shield, as well as all the new Pokemon debuting in Pokemon Ruby Sapphire, the latest core games in the series.
