Pokemon Sleep restricts you from catching them all

Pokemon Sleep has caught the attention of many gamers over the past week, with the game’s sleep tracking and cute Pokemon designs proving popular with fans. However, a problem with how the game determines sleep types has prevented players from catching them all, with the restriction seemingly contradictory to the completionist aspect of the game.

Pokemon Sleep allows you to record two sleep sessions a day to capture different types of Pokemon. However, if your sleep patterns fall outside the norm, you won’t be able to capture all the different sleep types and their respective Pokemon.

To determine your sleep type, the app analyses your sleep movement and sound. You can choose your preferred sleep type at the start of the game, with each type corresponding to a specific Pokemon that appears around Snorlax.

The problem lies with how the app categorises sleep into three types. If you move or make any sound during your sleep, you’ll fall under the ‘dozing’ sleep type, which corresponds to Pokemon such as Raticate and Spearow. If you don’t move or make any sound, you’ll be categorised under ‘slumbering’ which is associated with Pokemon such as Exeggcute and Snorlax. Finally, if you fall somewhere in between, you’ll be classed as ‘snoozing’ – an honorary term that doesn’t have any Pokemon associated with it.

As someone who is married to a serial snorer, this is a problem for me. My husband’s snoring constantly puts me in the ‘dozing’ category, meaning I won’t obtain other sleep types of Pokemon. In order to get the slumbering sleep type, I had to take a nap, which still meant I could only obtain slumbering Pokemon.

I know that if my husband didn’t snore, I could easily obtain the dozing sleep type and fill out the Sleep Style Dex. I’m not the only one with this issue – there are threads on Reddit from other players with similar problems, and some have resorted to cheating by playing snoring audio to fill their Dex.

The restriction on collecting all Pokemon seems contradictory to the completionist aspect of the game, where you’re encouraged to fill the Dex by tracking your sleep sessions. However, if you’re anything like me and your sleep habits don’t conform to the app’s sleep type system, you’re stuck.

I jokingly suggest that if you’re a slumbering-type of player and your spouse is a snorer, you might want to consider murdering him or her with the help of Snorlax. I mean, what else are you going to do – sleep in separate rooms? No, of course not.
