Everything you need to know about Stardew Valley's Ginger Island

Want to know more about Stardew Valley’s Ginger Island? Its attractions may be a little different from Pelican Town, but the same kind of farming fun still exists. The endgame challenge hub has new NPCs, items, and quests, including a unique farm theme. Here’s what you need to know about Stardew Valley’s Ginger Island.

How to get to Ginger Island

To get to Ginger Island, you need to speak to Willy on the beach. He gives a fetch quest where you need to find ten golden walnuts. Once you’ve collected them, return to the beach to place them in the pedestal. This enables you to use the Island Obelisk that transports you to Ginger Island. You do need to pay a fee of 1,000g, but this is the only monetary cost to visit the island.

Golden Walnut rewards

To unlock new features on Ginger Island, you need golden walnuts. There are a couple of ways to obtain them, but most of the time, they’re rewarded for completing quests or solving puzzles. The rewards for golden walnuts change depending on how many you’ve already spent, but you can always keep track of how many you have in the menu.

Leo’s Hut on Island East is where you’ll meet the other Ginger Island NPCs. Leo is an archaeologist who is trying to find the island’s secrets, the Dwarf is an employee of the Alpafant Mining Company, and Birdie is a pirate who gives quests. There’s also a parrot that mimics the other NPCs and gives hints for finding walnuts.

The parrot also mentions that Gem Birds appear on rainy days. These birds leave gems when you approach them, and you need to place the gems on pedestals. This can be a little confusing since the pedestals are shared with the Golden Walnut Rewards system. For example, the parrot may ask you to place a gem on a pedestal that has just given you a golden walnut.

Island West is accessible once you pay ten golden walnuts to a giant turtle. You can set up a farm here if you’ve already built the farmhouse. All the island features are similar to the standard Stardew Valley farm except for the Gourmand Frog. This frog sits in Birdie’s Shack and asks for specific crops that yield high profits. If you grow the requested crops, you can walk up to the frog to receive a Golden Walnut.

Qi’s Walnut Room is accessed once you’ve collected 100 golden walnuts. This area contains a rewards chest, a request board where you can receive gifts, and a minigame that can be played once every day. The minigame has you matching golden walnuts against a clock to receive rewards.

Birdie is the only NPC that can’t receive gifts. If you give her a gift, she will give you a pirate flag. If you place the flag on the island, it will say ‘hasta la vista, baby’ and teleport you to the Beach.

The Gourmand Frog requires you to grow specific crops and rewards you with a golden walnut. There is a list below of all the crops you need to grow:

  • The Colored Crystals Cave on Ginger Island features a puzzle with a reward of three golden walnuts. You need to shoot colored crystal nodes with the bow to match them with the pedestals. This will unlock the reward.
  • The Island South area is a resort that you can build once you’ve cleared debris. This area includes a Pirate Cove that you can visit once you’ve built the resort.
  • The Island North area is a new dungeon called Volcano Dungeon. This area also includes Pirate Cove and is accessible after building the resort. The Volcano Dungeon has enemies, a forge, and a shop.
  • The Dig Site on Ginger Island includes a mushroom cave, Dr. Snail as an NPC, and the ability to spawn nodes and mahogany trees.
  • The Island Field Office allows you to donate fossils to earn rewards like golden walnuts.
  • The Island Trader sells goods for ten walnuts. You need to build the island farmhouse first to access this area.
