AMD introduces Starfield-themed Ryzen 7 7800X3D and RX 7900 XTX GPUs

I'm a little disappointed to report that the Starfield-themed Ryzen 7 7800X3D and Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics cards are limited edition, meaning you won't be able to buy them. Don't get me wrong - it's nice to see AMD celebrating the launch of the Bethesda game with collectible hardware, but I really think the company could have included the option to buy them.

The Starfield Ryzen 7 7800X3D and RX 7900 XTX aren't available for sale, but they are still cool collector's items. They feature a white, blue, red, and yellow color theme that's reminiscent of the space game's logo, and the chips and cards come in celebratory boxes that reflect the aesthetic.

You'll be able to win the limited-edition units at Quakecon, and AMD says it'll share more information on that later. In the meantime, the company says it'll produce only 500 units of each, and they'll be available via giveaways.

Here's the fine print from AMD's announcement video and the dedicated Starfield page:

I'm disappointed to see that these Starfield-themed components aren't for sale, even if the company says they're aimed at collectors. It seems like there would be a market for limited edition hardware, especially when it features a unique design that calls back to a popular game or series.

The fine print also makes it clear that these units are custom and won't use AMD's typical moniker system, so they'll be difficult to discuss on a technical level. I personally like the Ryzen 7 7800X3D's box, although the chip itself isn't as special.

The RX 7900 XTX is definitely the better of the two limited edition parts, both because it's a custom reference design and because it's just a better-looking GPU. Changes to the 7900 XT include a matte white finish, black-painted heatsink fins and fans, and a red and white finish on the Radeon logo. The shroud also features spaceship text and white LED strips around the middle fan.

Here's the full-color version of the Starfield-themed RX 7900 XTX:

Despite my initial reaction, I'm actually happy to see AMD celebrating a major game launch with limited-edition hardware, even if I personally won't be able to buy it. The fine print makes it clear that there will be opportunities to win the units, so I'll be sure to keep my eyes peeled.

The company's still offering the Starfield Game Bundle, too, which lets you get the game for free with the purchase of qualifying Ryzen CPUs, Radeon GPUs, or AMD-powered systems.
