Starfield’s research and crafting

Want to know more about Starfield’s research and crafting? The Bethesda RPG game has a robust system, building upon the success of Fallout 4’s crafting mechanics to give players a wide range of options and freedom.

Starfield’s research system begins with the Research Laboratory on your ship, where you’ll be able to study new technologies in categories such as pharmacology, food and drink, outpost development, equipment, and weaponry. Each project has its own requirements and time to completion, and certain projects may require specific skill levels to begin.

Starfield research projects

Here are all the research projects we know about in Starfield so far:

  • Pharmacology projects include improved medical treatment and performance enhancement.
  • Food and drink projects focus on better meals to satisfy the appetite of space travelers.
  • Outpost development projects allow for improved resource extraction.
  • Equipment projects enable customization of gear, such as helmet mods, including faceplate mods, lens mods, and sight mods.
  • Weaponry projects allow for customization of guns, with options like barrel mods, grip mods, optics and sight mods, and muzzle mods.

Once you begin a research project, it takes time to complete. Some projects also require specific skill levels before you can begin the project. For example, before you can start researching pharmacology projects, you need at least one scientist with the medical skill.

Starfield crafting

When you have the necessary materials, such as nickel and iron, you can craft items using advanced 3D printers in the Starfield universe. Personal gear items don’t require any specific crafting skills; as long as you’ve researched an item, you can craft it. However, certain items that you can add to gear, such as armor plates, require specific armor mods skills.

That’s all we have for Starfield’s research and crafting systems for now. The game’s release date is set for September 6, so you won’t have to wait too long to explore the depths of space for yourself. With the ability to build bases, customize gear, and more, Starfield is shaping up to be an exciting and engaging space RPG. For more space games, check out the best space games on PC.
