Guest Characters for Street Fighter 6
Such a thing is almost unheard of in the Street Fighter series – guest characters, that is – but what if Street Fighter 6 decided to break that trend and include one in its roster? Which fighting game characters would the fans like to see grace the list? Guest characters can obviously attract a far larger audience to a fighting game, with the likes of Ken and Hulk in the Marvel vs Capcom games proving to be big draws, but they do need to fit the mechanics and style of the series.
Fortunately, the roster of Street Fighter 6 looks varied enough to accommodate a few of the above, albeit with adjustments to their abilities. Here are some characters that fans think would work as Street Fighter 6 guests.
Rock Howard
Adding Rock Howard to Street Fighter 6 would be a perfect representation of Capcom’s recent push towards more exciting, flashy characters. Rock is stylish, flashy, and well-equipped for the fast-paced style of the next installment in the series. While he would need to tone down the flashy Ultra activation from The King of Fighters XIV, his abilities in that game would translate well into Street Fighter 6. Rock’s original moveset would enhance the new Drive Gauge system too.
Sub-Zero
Another safe choice for a guest character would be Sub-Zero from Mortal Kombat. While introducing fight mechanics from the decidedly different Injustice series would make for an odd change, Sub-Zero’s straightforward, grounded gameplay would integrate well into Street Fighter 6. Mortal Kombat’s lack of a parry system would leave Sub-Zero relatively vulnerable to feints, but his mix-ups would be a constant threat.
King
Adding King from Tekken would be a bit strange given his usual brutality, but he has toned it down over the years. King would be an even more interesting choice from Tekken – a series well-known for its flashy combos and juggling capabilities. Most Tekken characters would be obvious choices – especially Heihachi, Kazuya, and Jin – but given King’s utilisation of the Drive Gauge this would make for an exciting and frustrating gameplay experience.
Leifang
While Dead or Alive has ranged from 2D to 3D now, we still have a unique idea of what its characters bring to the table. Tough and hard-hitting, Leifang would bring a defensive and systematic approach to combat into Street Fighter 6, punishing opponents for their mistakes. She may be an easy target on the offensive, but her excellent evasion abilities would keep her safe most of the time.
Of course, losing the dimensionality of Dead or Alive removes some of Leifang’s style, but much of it would still transition relatively easily.
Yuel
Again, another highly unlikely choice but with enough changes to her move set – especially her combos – Granblue Fantasy: Versus’s Yuel may be an interesting guest character choice. Smart and calculated, Yuel’s calculated and grounded playstyle would fill the void left by Menat’s absence in Street Fighter 6. If Yuel somehow enters the fray at the Neutral-1, be careful – she is fast and has combos that are difficult to block.
Chipp Zanuff
Chipp Zanuff from Guilty Gear could potentially work as a guest character in Street Fighter 6. He would need his combos toned down a bit and possibly need an additional dash of speed, but his abilities from Guilty Gear Strive would still translate well into the new game. Likewise, Portal’s Ricky may be a fun choice – his slow but strong attacks can be very rewarding.
Mai
Mai is a very popular and recognizable character in the fighting game community, ranking even higher than Solange of Samurai Showdown among fans. Her rushdown fighting style would make her a great addition to the Street Fighter 6 roster, her understated moves making her a standout among other speedy fighters. As mentioned with Leifang, Dead or Alive’s dimensionality counts for a lot in the series, but Mai’s stylish combos – specifically her combos from the midair Y button – would be a delight to watch in Street Fighter 6.
Morrigan
Admittedly, giving Morrigan from Darkstalkers her own moveset would be as predictable as Chun-Li’s. Yet this beloved character deserves to be in the game. Don’t argue with me – with or without her soul siphon, Morrigan is a character anyone and everyone could play and have fun with.
