Super Mario Bros. Wonder release date

The Super Mario Bros. Wonder release date is finally here, and we’ve got all the latest on the highly anticipated 2D Mario game, including gameplay footage and co-op features. Nintendo surprised fans with a new lineup of games scheduled for release through 2024, with Super Mario Bros. Wonder leading the way as the first 2D Mario game on Switch.

Following the Mario Maker 2 Direct, Nintendo has shown off a range of upcoming Switch games, including Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and we’ve got a full breakdown of all the exciting news.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder release date

Super Mario Bros. Wonder releases exclusively on Nintendo Switch on October 20, 2023. This is the closest launch date for 2D Mario and Sonic games in recent memory, with Sonic Superstars also releasing that same week – making for an interesting competition.

This is also the first 2D Mario game since Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, which released in 2022, to be developed by Nintendo’s Tokyo studio.

Gameplay and co-op

Nintendo has released a lengthy gameplay trailer showcasing the many features of Wonder. The most striking difference between Wonder and previous 2D Mario games is its unique Mushroom Kingdom, which has a reality-altering backdrop that changes based on the world you’re playing in.

We get a glimpse at this in the gameplay trailer, with the world transforming into a winter wonderland in Snowy Kingdom. This backdrop isn’t simply for show; it has a gameplay impact, with new abilities such as Elephant Mario making an appearance. Other returning favourites are playable, too, with Princess Daisy appearing in the gameplay trailer.

Co-op gameplay is available locally, up to four people can play, and it supports everyone using a single Joy-Con controller. However, online multiplayer isn’t supported.

That’s everything we know about the Super Mario Bros. Wonder release date. If you’re looking for more Nintendo Switch news, we’ve got the full list of upcoming games, including the highly anticipated Metroid Prime 4, and all the Nintendo Switch games you can expect in 2023.
