The Simpsons: Hit & Run Fan Remake in Unreal Engine 5
A The Simpsons: Hit & Run fan remake in Unreal Engine 5 is so close to being playable, but legal restrictions mean that you’ll never be able to play it. That’s not to say you can’t see some incredible work, and attempt to make it yourself.
The remake, which is built on top of a modified version of the engine, recreates the entirety of the 2003 game as a fully Open-world experience. It’s so close to being playable that you could drive the Simpsons family car up their driveway and see it reflected in their windows.
Developers' Efforts
The developers, Reubs and Korylon, spent a year remaking the entirety of the 2003 game as a fully open-world experience. It’s not clear if more of the game has been remade, but not shown in the videos – you can watch the full remaking series below – but it seems that legal restrictions prevent the remake from being distributed.
Reubs runs a Patreon and sells an Unreal Engine plugin, which may explain the motivation for the remake – although the plugin is apparently “intended for educational and demonstration purposes only.” Watch the video below to see the incredible work that has been done on the fan remake.
If you want to play the remake, you could attempt to make it yourself, or you could watch Reubs’ YouTube series on remaking the game – although it’s unclear if there’s more to the game than what’s shown in the videos. The closest alternative is probably the fantastic mod that stitches the original game together.
We’d love to see an official remake of The Simpsons: Hit & Run, but we’ll just have to keep waiting – perhaps there’s a good reason for it not existing yet. If you’d like to help us find it, subscribe to our official N4G Twitch account for live gaming and entertainment streams.
