The Simpsons: Hit & Run Remake in Unreal Engine 5

The The Simpsons: Hit & Run remake in Unreal Engine 5 is finished, but you won't be able to play it. YouTuber Reubs spent a year faithfully recreating the first ten missions of the cult classic game, remaking the entire thing from scratch, including every detail and feature. But because The Simpsons is owned by Fox, an IP holder that often prevents fan projects and remakes from being publicly released, we'll probably never play it.

Reubs showcases some of the iconic locations that he’s remade, including the first mission where you have to follow the school bus. It looks stunning, and you can see how he’s made it look almost exactly the same. Reubs even says the game runs at a smooth 60 frames per second, which is impressive considering how much is going on.

Watching the completed project on YouTube is definitely a taste of what a modern Hit & Run could look like. I’m sure many of you would love to play it, myself included. There’s been no digital re-release of the original and its popularity continues, along with a frustration for fans that no official remakes or re-releases have been announced.

“I’m actually moving on to the next remake now,” Reubs says. “I hope someone will let creators like me release their projects one day.” Hopefully this remake, and the support it’s received, will encourage that.

You can watch the project in its entirety below:

Alternatively, you can play the original version of The Simpsons: Hit & Run on PC via EA Origin.
